Terms of Service

The short version

CrestLite is a gear-list manager for backpackers. Use it fairly, keep your account secure, and remember it plans your pack, it doesn't certify your safety. Your gear data stays yours, and the Privacy Policy governs how we handle your information.

Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or using CrestLite, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, don't use the service. You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live) to create an account.

Beta status

CrestLite is in beta. Features may change, break, or be removed, and we may occasionally need downtime for maintenance or migration. We work hard to keep your data safe (and you can export your lists), but during beta you should keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.

Your account

You're responsible for your account and everything done with it. Keep your credentials to yourself, use a password you don't reuse elsewhere, and tell us right away if you think your account has been compromised. Accounts are for people, one each. Don't impersonate someone else or register accounts in bulk.

Your content stays yours

The gear items, libraries, trip lists, photos, and notes you add to CrestLite belong to you. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your content, display it back to you, and, when you mark a list public, display it to people you share it with. Delete your content or your account and that permission ends, apart from short-lived backups that expire on their own schedule.

Sharing

Trip lists are private by default. When you make a list public, anyone with its link can view it, and you're responsible for what it contains. You can make a list private again at any time, though copies others made while it was public are out of our hands.

Acceptable use

Don't use CrestLite to:

• break the law, or infringe anyone's rights or intellectual property;
• upload content that is abusive, deceptive, or malicious (including malware or spam);
• probe, overload, scrape, or disrupt the service, or access other users' private data;
• resell or white-label the service without our written permission.

The API is part of the service: the same rules apply to anything you build against it, and we may apply rate limits to keep the service healthy for everyone.

Not safety advice

CrestLite tracks weights, costs, and packing lists. It does not certify that your gear is adequate for any trip or conditions. Temperature ratings, weights, and similar figures are informational, often manufacturer-supplied, and can be wrong. Backcountry travel is inherently risky: judgment, preparation, and safety decisions are yours alone.

Termination

You can stop using CrestLite and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms or put the service or other users at risk. If we ever discontinue the service, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to export your data.

No warranty

CrestLite is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and uninterrupted availability.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or losses arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Where liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, which during the free beta is zero.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. For material changes we'll give notice (for example by email or an in-app notice) before they take effect. Continuing to use CrestLite after a change means you accept the updated terms.
